Mr. Trash Wheel

Mr. Trash Wheel introduces Baltimore Harbor’s googly-eyed river robot and shows why telling his story is so meaningful for inspiring conservation. Designed by engineer John Kellett with the support of the Waterfront Partnership of Baltimore, this solar- and hydro-powered trash interceptor has removed more than 2,300 tons of waste from the city’s harbor, capturing the imagination of locals and becoming a symbol of hope worldwide. With his conveyor-belt “mouth” and playful personality, Mr. Trash Wheel proves that solutions to serious problems don’t have to be intimidating, they can be approachable, innovative, and even fun. The film highlights how blending technology with community engagement creates momentum for cleaner waterways. Mr. Trash Wheel reminds us that conservation succeeds when people feel connected and empowered, and that even the quirkiest inventions can spark global conversations about how we care for rivers and the planet.
