Rivers are Life is a community of river advocates, that are working to protect, preserve, and explore the world’s rivers.  

When Rivers are Life launched in 2022, we set the goal of completing 1,000 impact projects. That goal is tremendous and shows our community we are in this for the long-haul. Change takes time, but with each project completed we are helping leave our freshwater sources a little bit better than we found them, ensuring they are around for future generations.

Through the support from like-minded individuals, organizations, NGOs, and corporations, we are able to help our River Heroes fund their projects, while documenting the experience for them to use to further their mission.

Make a Donation. Your gift directly supports River Heroes and projects across our three impact areas: education & awareness, water quality & ecosystem health, and solutions to address waste. Every contribution helps us move closer to our goal of 1,000 impact projects by 2050.

Fund a Project. By funding a project, you can see the direct impact of your contribution on the health of rivers, wildlife, and communities.

Shop to Make an Impact. Every purchase from our shop helps fund conservation projects and storytelling efforts. From eco-friendly gear to apparel, your purchase spreads awareness and supports the mission with every item.

We take accountability very seriously and track it in several ways. 

• Every project we work on is documented. While all our projects are different, they are all important and each gets a dedicated webpage showing the work done and the organizations involved. 

• Each year we create an impact report that shows what we have been up to. This includes every impact project, metrics, quotes from River Heroes and all those that made the work possible. This is available here.

Projects come to Rivers are Life in several ways, each designed to ensure we are addressing real needs and creating measurable impact:

• From River Heroes. Many of our projects are led or inspired by River Heroes — local champions who see firsthand what their river needs. These projects often focus on urgent, community-rooted solutions.

• Through Research & Development. Our team and partners identify opportunities by studying river health, wildlife needs, and environmental challenges around the world. Science and data guide us to projects with the potential for lasting change.

• Community Involvement. We listen to communities who live along rivers. Their insights help us shape projects that improve water quality, protect ecosystems, and strengthen local connections to rivers.

• Through Our Website. Visitors and supporters can share ideas and propose projects directly through the Rivers are Life platform. This open channel allows us to discover grassroots opportunities we might not find otherwise.

Each project is carefully reviewed to ensure it aligns with our three core impact areas and moves us closer to our goal of 1,000 projects by 2050.
