Gifts of the Nile
Gifts of the Nile tells the story of VeryNile’s innovative work along Egypt’s iconic river. For thousands of years, the Nile has sustained fishing communities, culture, and life itself, but plastic pollution has put that legacy at risk. Through the Reviving Cairo Fishermen project, local fishermen and women are paid fair wages to remove plastic waste, nearly 40 tons each year, while gaining access to healthcare and new opportunities. The collected plastic is then transformed into useful products, fueling a circular economy that benefits both people and the environment. By highlighting this effort, the film proves that conservation can also mean empowerment, dignity, and resilience. Gifts of the Nile inspires us to see rivers not only as ecosystems to restore but as pathways for stronger, healthier communities where people and nature thrive together.
