The Captain & The Super Clams

The Captain & The Super Clams dives into Florida’s Indian River Lagoon, where Dr. Todd Osborne and Captain Blair Wiggins are leading a bold restoration project. Once devastated by unregulated commercial clamming, the lagoon lost its natural filters, leading to algae blooms, seagrass die-offs, and collapsing ecosystems. With only 39 clams left, Osborne, Wiggins, and their community began carefully breeding resilient “super clams” capable of filtering gallons of water a day and reviving balance to the lagoon. By sharing this story, the film demonstrates how science, tradition, and local action can come together to heal even the most fragile waters. The Captain & The Super Clams inspires us to believe that no river system is beyond saving, and that nature often holds the tools we need to repair the damage we’ve caused.
