Celebrating Collective Action for Rivers Everywhere

At Rivers are Life, we believe in the power of collective action and our 2025 partnerships proved it. This year, our partners worked across the United States to restore habitats, remove waste, and strengthen communities connected by water. Each project showed that real progress happens when people come together to care for the rivers that sustain us all.

To recognize their efforts, we launched the World Rivers Day Impact Award, created to celebrate organizations making a lasting difference for rivers and the people who depend on them. The award highlights the creativity, collaboration, and commitment that define our growing network of River Heroes.

2025 Winner: Friends of the Fox River

We’re proud to share that the 2025 World Rivers Day Impact Award went to Friends of the Fox River, earning 460 votes from our global river community! Their ongoing work to protect and restore the Fox River watershed continues to inspire action across the Great Lakes region.

All ten nominees demonstrated incredible dedication to their local waterways, and it was inspiring to see people around the world come together to vote. The overwhelming response reminded us how deeply rivers connect us and how every cleanup, restoration, and educational effort contributes to healthier ecosystems and stronger communities.

Between September 22–28, thousands of people cast their votes for their favorite River Heroes. Friends of the Fox River received a $1,000 donation and $500 in Rivers are Life gear to support their continued conservation work.

Thank You to Our River Heroes

Every nominee reflected the heart of our mission community, collaboration, and care for rivers everywhere. World Rivers Day reminded us that lasting impact comes from shared effort, and together, we’re proving what’s possible when people unite for the planet’s waterways.

Thank you to everyone who voted, supported, and continues to stand up for rivers. The 2025 Impact Award was more than a celebration, it was proof that collective action creates real, lasting change.
